Retail Downswing
The retail sector globally fights the downswing as consumers find better deals online.
The online retail sector is booming and major retailers have started scrambling to get an online presence and make a last ditch effort to hold onto a position in this fast changing global market.
The fundemental problem with the entire market is that retailers are missing the actual trend. Online many small retailers have developed a different type of market. Many smaller players coming together to make a more interesting and comnunity centered push against the gigantic retailers.
If retailers follow the obvious trend i.e. online retail they have missed the boat. AMAZON already exists. They need to play out the trend that is at the root of the movement.
In South Africa we always a bit late to these global trends, but SUPERBALIST was well infront of the curve.
Now like i was saying this is the perfect time for huge retailers like EDCON to look deeper at the trend and see whats really going on before its too late.
The best way towards rectifying the #retailarmaggedon is to follow the root trend.
Engage local smaller retailers to use their huge rented spaces throughout the country. This means a complete business shift. Stop buying brands and initiate an investing phase where local fashion trends are magnified and local retailers can get a foot hold into a major market.
Let the people share their individuality with their geographic consumers. These local retailers will be also market their own products in store giving consumers a more interesting experience and convince them to spend money in store rather than online.
